Q

Defective headlights/ ditch lights

A

In a depot:
• If a failure occurs prior to entering service, another unit will be taken if available
• If the unit can not be replaced, the defect must be repaired by depot personnel before the unit is released for service.

Q

Main Transformer (on M1 car)

A

The Main Transformer receives 25,000 VAC from the overhead line and transforms it to:
- 1000 VAC at 4 x 400 amp supply to the Traction Converters on the M1 & M2 cars.
- 429 VAC at 2 x 291 amp feeds to the Auxilliary Power Converters (APS) 1 & 2 on the M2 car.

Q

Auxilliary Power Converters (APS) (on M2 car)

A
  • Located under the M2 car
  • Convert one of the Main Transformer outputs to supply 400VAC Hotel supply & 110VDC for the DC systems

APS1: Supplies the power requirements of the M1 car and half of the T-car and one battery charger
APS2: Supplies the M2 car, the remaining half of the T-car and the other battery charger

16
Q

Traction Converters

A

Traction converters are found on both the M cars. They power each motor car’s four traction motors. The power output from the traction motors is determined by the position of the T/B handle.

17
Q

Air Compressors

A

In normal service only one compressor operates as determined by the TMS and total running time of the compressors.

During service the operating compressor maintains the Main Reservoir (MR) pressure between 850KPa and 1000 KPa. If there is heavy demand, and the MR pressure falls below 750 KPa then both will run until pressure reaches 850 KPa. One compressor will then return to standby mode.

18
Q

Compressor Isolating Valves

A

Located under front passenger door, B side (right)

19
Q

MR & BP Isolation Valves

A

Located between each car and between each M car & the automatic coupler. These allow the MR and BP for that car to be isolated.

If the MR or BP for a car needs to be isolated then the adjacent valves on the adjoining car or coupler must also be isolated.

20
Q

Auxiliary Isolate Valves (Horns & Coupler)

A

Mounted behind a labelled cover, B side (right), in front of the Operator’s cab door - four valves which isolate:

  • Auto-coupler
  • Auto-coupling control circuits
  • Horn 1
  • Horn 2
