Motor Bogies (AMP & AMA units)
Motor bogies are fitted with:
- Traction motors, and
- Air brake assembly (2 per bogie, diagonally opposite each other)
- Primary suspension assembly
- Secondary suspension (airbags) assembly
- Park brakes fitted to each air brake assembly
T-Car Bogie
T-car bogies are fitted with:
- Trailer wheel set assembly
- Primary suspension assembly
- Secondary suspension assembly (air bag)
- Air brake assembly (one per wheel)
Note: No traction motors or park brakes on t-car bogies.
Flange Lubrication
Reduces wear on the wheels and track on tight curves and will also decrease wheel squeal.
Defective headlights/ ditch lights
In a depot:
• If a failure occurs prior to entering service, another unit will be taken if available
• If the unit can not be replaced, the defect must be repaired by depot personnel before the unit is released for service.

Vacuum Circuit Breaker
Used as an in-line circuit breaker to open and close the power circuit.
Main Transformer (on M1 car)
The Main Transformer receives 25,000 VAC at up to 74 amps from the overhead line and transforms it to:
- 1000 VAC at 4 x 400 amp supply to the Traction Converters on the M1 & M2 cars.
- 429 VAC at 2 x 291 amp feeds to the Auxilliary Power Converters (APS) 1 & 2 on the M2 car.
Auxilliary Power Converters (APS) (on M2 car)
- Located under the M2 car
- Convert one of the Main Transformer outputs to supply 400VAC Hotel supply & 110VDC for the DC systems
APS1: Supplies the power requirements of the M1 car and half of the T-car and one battery charger
APS2: Supplies the M2 car, the remaining half of the T-car and the other battery charger
Air Systems on EMU
- Friction service brakes
- Emergency brakes
- Secondary airbag suspension
- Operator’s cab service horns, and
- Pantograph raising mechanisms
