Tissues Flashcards
Complex extracellular material that tissue is embedded in
Simple Matrix
Type of tissue that covers the body surface and body cavities and specializes in moving substances into and out of the body and organs. One or more layer of densely arranged cells with very little extracellular matrix.
Epithelial Cells
Sparsly arranged cells surrounded by a large extracellular matrix, contains structural fibers and functions to support and transport
Connective tissue
Long fiber like cells capable of pulling loads, produces movement and produces most of the bodies heat
Muscle Cells
Most complex tissue in the body, specializes in communication between the various parts of the body, mixture of many cell types
Nerve Cells
Tissue that’s avascular (contains no blood vessels)
Epithelial Tissue
Where are simple squamous cells found (single layer of flat scalelike cells)
Alveoli of lungs, lining of blood and lymphatic vessels
Where are stratified squamous cells found (Several layers of flat squamous cells and contains keratin)
Surface of mucous membrane of mouth, esophagus, and vagina. And surface of skin (epidermis)
Where are transitional cells found
Surface of mucus membrane of bladder
Where are simple columnar cells found (single layer of column shaped cells)
Surface of mucous lining of stomach, intestines, and part of the respiratory tract.
Glands that discharge their secretion products into ducts (salivary)
Exocrine Glands
“Ductless Glands” that secrete directly into the body (hormones)
Endocrine Glands
Where are fibroblasts located
Loose connective tissue
Fibrous connective tissue masses
Fascia
Bone forming cells
Osteoblasts
