Muscular System Flashcards
Three layers of muscle
Endomysium, Perimysium, Epimysium
Connects muscle to bone
Tendon
Broad, flat sheet of connective tissue
Aponeurosis
Fibrous connective tissue that covers the outside of epimysium and tendons (connective tissue found under the skin)
Fascia
Point of attachment that doesn’t move when the muscle contracts
Origin
Point of attachment that moves when the muscle contracts
Insertion
Prime Mover (agonist)
A muscle that directly performs a movement
Antagonists
Muscles that directly oppose prime movers (they’re relaxed when agonists are contracted)
Synergists
Muscles that contract at the same time as prime movers
Fixator Muscles
Muscles that provide stability at joints (posture)
Tonicity (muscle Tone)
Continual low level tension or muscle constriction do to counteracting gravity pull
What binds with Myosin on Thick filaments
ATP (transfers energy)
Oxygen-requiring respiration (catabolic process)
Aerobic
Respiration without the need of oxygen
Anaerobic
What do skeletal muscle produce
Movement, support, and Heat
