- As the liquid is injected under the skin, the moisture inside reacts with the tissue builder and gels to create the effects of tissue building.
3
Q
Why perform tissue building?

- Prevent the emaciated look.
- Tissue building the features of the face and hands will recreate the natural form.
- Secondary Preservation
4

Tissue builder that contains formaldehyde and has preservative qualities
6

- Alcohol-based solution that helps dissolve the tissue builder
- Used to clean needle/syringe

Q
Process of Tissue Building
A
- Embalm the body.
- Identify areas needing tissue building
- Fill the syringe. Fill to the amount estimated to be needed.
- Turn the syringe upright and push out any air.
- Select the entry point. There may be multiple sites. Start on the non-viewing side first (the decease’s left side)
- Try to find a hidden point.
- Insert the needle.
- Extend the needle to the furthest point which will require tissue building.
- Channel under the surface to loosen the tissue.
- extend the needle to the farthest point and depress the plunger on the syringe and inject the liquid while simultaneously drawing the needle back out
- Smooth the area with digital pressure (finger)

Q
Tips for Tissue Building
A
- Keep the features even and symmetrical (bi-lateral symmetry)
- Start on the non-viewing side
- Get a “feel” for how the tissue will react to the tissue builder before completing the entire face/area
- Inject a little at a time
- Don’t over do it
