Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 4 types of tissue
A
- Epithelium tissue
- connective tissue
- nerve tissue
- muscle tissue
2
Q
What is endothelial tissue
A
This is tissue that lines the inside of the blood vessles
3
Q
Define epithelium tissue
A
- Also called epithelial tissue
- Covers the body’s surface and lines hollow organs (intestine, bronchial tubes)
- Provides a protective barrier
- absorbes nutrience in the intestine (Simple columnar epithelium tissue)
- secretes various substances: sweat and urea
4
Q
Define connective tissue
A
- Binds other tissue types together
- occurs throughout the body
- made up of an abudance of intercellular matrix (non-living substances, collagen and protein and fibers)
- Bone and cartilage are a sub-type of connective tissue
5
Q
What is adipose tissue
A
- Special type of connective tissue
- contains large amounts of lipids
6
Q
Define muscle tissue
A
- Able to contract
- enclosed by fascia (layer of connective tissue that seperates individual muscles)
- classified by Structure:
- Striated and non-striated
- Classified by function:
- Voluntary and involuntary
7
Q
What are the 3 types of muscles
A
- Skeletal muscles: striated and under voluntary control
- Cardiac muscles Striated and involuntary
- Smooth muscle Non-striated , involuntary
8
Q
Define nerve tissue
A
- Able to transmit nerve impulses
- found in brain, spinal cord and nerves
- responsible for controlling and coordinating body activities
- Peripheral nerves: extend from the brain and spinal cord and exit betweent he vertebra
