The cell Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 main components of the cell
A
- Cell membrane
- cytoplasm
- nucleus
2
Q
What is Differentation
A
it is the process that a cell undergoes to become specialized
3
Q
Describe what cell membrane
A
- Consists of fat & protein
- Has a semi-permiable membrane
- Protects and provides structure to the cell
4
Q
Where are organelles contained
A
Within the fluid of the cytoplasm
5
Q
What do ribosomes do
A
- Contain RNA & protein
- interacts with RNA from other organelles to create amino acid chains which make protein
6
Q
What does are the 2 types of endoplasmic reticulum and what are their functions
A
- Rough endoplasmic reticulum: network of tubules and vesicles and sacs
- Has ribosomes attached to it and is involved with building protein
- Smooth endoplasmic reticulum: Network of tubules and vesicles and sacs
- Helps build lipids
7
Q
What does the golgi complex do?
A
- Involved in synthesis and packaging of various carbohydrates & enzymes
8
Q
What do lysosomes do?
A
- Membran bound structures that contain digestive enzymes
- these help break down bacteria and organic debris that comes from the cell membrane
9
Q
What do peroxisomes do
A
they neutrilize toxins
10
Q
What does the mitochondria do
A
- Incharge of metabolic procces of the cell
- Produces ATP (adenosime triphosphate)
11
Q
What does the nucleus do
A
- Contains genetic material DNA
- Contains RNA
- the Nuclear envelop surrounds the nucleus and gives its shape
12
Q
What is aerobic metabolism
A
This is the process that O2 is used to create energy from glucous
This process creates ATP
13
Q
What is the structural organization starting form a cell
A
Cell - tissue - organs - organ system - organism
