Tibia Flashcards
What is the Tibial plateau?
Proximal tibial surface on which the femur rests
What is the Medial condyle?
Medial part of the tibial plateau
Attachment point for: Medial collateral ligament and Semimembranosus muscle (posterior part).
What is the Medial collateral ligament connected to and from?

What is the origin site of the Semimembranosus muscle ?
Ischial tuberosity (lateral region)
What is the insertion site of the Semimembranosus muscle?
Posterior part of the medial condyle of the tibia.
What is the Lateral condyle?
lateral part of the tibial plateau
. Attachment point for Biceps femoris muscle, Tibialis anterior muscle and Extensor digitorum longus muscle
(3 muscles)
What is the origin site of the Biceps femoris?
Long head - ischial tuberosity (medial region).
Short head – linea aspera, lateral supracondylar ridge/line of the femur.
What is the insertion site of the Biceps femoris muscle?
Lateral side of the head of the fibula and lateral condyle of the tibia.
What is the origin site of the Tibialis anterior muscle?

What is the intercondylar eminence?
Raised area on the proximal tibial surface between the articular condyles.
What is the Tibial tuberosity?
The bone lump found on the anterior surface of the proximal Tibia
Attachement site for the Patellar ligament
What is the Patellar ligament connected from and to?
From the Patella to the Tibial tuberosity
What is the Superior fibular articular facet?
Articular surface found on the posterior/inferior edge of the lateral condyle
What is the Popliteal line?
A line crossing the proximal half of the posterior tibial surface from superior/lateral to infrior/medial
Attachment point for: Popliteus muscle (superior to the line) and Soleus muscle (inferior to the line
What is the origin site of the Popliteus muscle
Lateral surface of the lateral condyle of the femur (popliteal groove).
What is the insertion site of the Popliteus muscle?
Posterior, proximal shaft of the tibia (superior to the soleal/popliteal line)
What is the origin site of the Soleus muscle?
Posterior surface of the tibia (soleal line) and the proximal 1/3 rd posterior surface of the fibula.
What is the insertion site of the Soleus muscle?
Posterior surface of the calcaneus.
What is the Nutrient foramen?
The hole found inferior/lateral to the soleal line/popliteal line on the posterior surface of the tibia.
What is the Anterior crest of the shaft?
Forms the anterior edge of the shin
What is the Medial surface of the shaft?
Forms the medial edge of the shin
What is the Shaft?
Straight segment of bone found between the expanded proximal and distal ends
How many muscles are attachment points for the Posterior surface and Medial surface of the Shafr??
POSTERIOR SURFACE:
1. Tibialis posterior muscle (lateral, posterior surface).
2. Flexor digitorum longus muscle (medial, posterior surface).
MEDIAL SURFACE:
3. Semitendinosus muscle (proximal, medial surface).
4. Sartorius muscle (proximal, anterior/medial surface).
5. Gracilis muscle (proximal, medial surface).
What is the origin site of the Semitendinosus muscle?
Ischial tuberosity (medial part of the ischial tuberosity just inferior to semimembranosus).
What is the insertion site of the Semitendinosus muscle?
Proximal, medial side of the tibial shaft
What is the origin site of the Sarorius muscle?
Anterior superior iliac spine.
What is the insertion site of the Sartorius muscle?
Proximal anteromedial surface of the tibial shaft
What is the origin site of the Gracilis muscle?
Inferior pubic ramus.
What is the insertion site of the Gracilis muscle?
Proximal, medial surface of the tibial shaft
What is the Interosseous crest?
Lateral crest of the shaft of the tibia.
Attachment point for: Interosseous membrane
What is the Medial malleolus?
Projection of bone on the medial side of the distal tibia
What is the Fibular notch?
Notch in the bone on the lateral side of the distal tibia
What is the Malleolar groove?
Groove found on the posterior portion of the medial malleolus
