Radius Flashcards
What is the head of the Radius?
Round, button shaped, articular structure found at the proximal end fo the radius
What is the neck of the Radius?
Slender segement of the radius found in between the head of the radius and the radial tuberosity
What is the Radial tuberosity in the Radius?
Blunt projection of bone found on the anteromedial surface of the proxmial radius
Attachment site for the Biceps brachii muscle
What is the origin of the Biceps Brachii muscle?
Short head – coracoid process of the scapula.
Long head – supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula
What is the action done by the Biceps Brachii muscle?
Flexes the elbow, flexes and abducts the shoulder and supinates the radioulnar joint.
What is the shaft in the Radius?
Long, thin region of the redius found between the raidl tuberosity and the distal end
Attachment site for Flexor pollicis longus muscle
What is the insertion site for the Flexor Pollcis Longus Muscle?
Base of the distal phalanx of the thumb (digit 1)
What is the action done by the Flexor Pollcis Longus Muscle?
Flexion of the thumb
What is the Nutrient foramen for the Radius?
Hole found on the anterior surface of the proximal half of the radius
What is the Interosseous crest?
Sharp medial edge of the radial shaft
What is the Obique line?
Found on the anterior surface of the shaft
- Spirals inferolaterally from origin at the base of the radial tuberosity
Attachment site for Flexor digitorum superficialis muscle
What is the insertion of the FLEXOR DIGITORUM SUPERFICIALIS MUSCLE
Two tendons divide into the sides of middle phalanges of digits 2-5
What is the action done by the FLEXOR DIGITORUM SUPERFICIALIS MUSCLE?
Flexes the middle phalanges of digits 2-5
What is the Ulnar notch?
Concave articuar ollow on the medial corner of the distal radius
What is the distal radial aritcular surface?
Recentargular articular surface on the distal surface of the radius
- It is the usrface with which the radius articulates with carpal bones( lunate, medially and scaphoid, laterally)
What is the Styloid process?
Sharp projection of bon found on the lateral side of the distal radius
Attachment site for Brachioradalis muscle
What is the Dorsal tubercle?
THe tuberosity found ont he posterior surface of the distal radius
What is origin of the Pronator quadratus muscle?
Pronator ridge fo the ulna
What is the insertion site of the Pronator quadratus muscle?
Lateral anterior surface of the radius
What is the action done by the pronator quadratus muscle?
Pronates the forearm
What is the insertion site of the Supinator muscle?
Posterior and lateral surfaces of the upper third of the radius
What is the action done by the supinator muscle?
Supinates the forearm
