- female adolescent comes in with rib humping that is accentuated on Adam’s test

A
- family history
- female
- rapid growth spurts during adolescence
- 10-16 yrs onset
- dull and achy pain
- change in shoulder height
decrease in kyphosis - lateral curvature of spine

refuting factors
A
- neurological symptoms (abnormal myotomes/dermatimes/MSRs
- less than 10 degree curvature
- new onset in skeletally mature patient

relevant orthos
A
- adams test
- chest expansion

referrals
A
- x-rays to evaluate cobb’s angle
- if left convexity refer to MRI immediately

contraindications
A
- never touch - adjust the apex of curve
- always contact the high side of the wedge
- if they have rod - DO NOT ADJUST

technique
A
- gentle around curve

care plan
A
- 2 x a week for 4 weeks

recommendations
A
- Risser’s sign every 3rd month to look for progression

prognosis
A
10-25 degrees = observation
20-45 degrees = bracing
45+ degrees = operative candidate
