CERV. sprain/strain classic presentation
A
patient has constant dull pain that is sharp with movement after a traumatic injury (initial pain at time of injury then goes stiff)

- burners/stingers
- whiplash
- cerv. disc herniation

supporting factors
A
- traumatic MOI
- dull pain that is sharp with movement
- rest and not moving helps
- muscle spasms and guarding
- +ve RUST SIGN

A
- abnormal neuros
- not releived by pain
- improved with movement
- insidious onset

- possible rust sign
- O’donoghues
- soto hall

physical findings
A
- guarded in al ROM
- pain when involved muscle is recruited

referrals
A
- physiotherapist
- GP for pain meds
- x-ray is suspecting fracture

contraindications
A
if it is grade 3 strain/sprain = NO ADJUSTING CERV. SPINE

techniques
A
grade 1 sprain strain = adjust to patient tolerance
grade 2 = use activator

care plan
A
adjust 2 x week for 6 weeks

recommendations
A
- care with lifting
- adequate sleep
- home exercise
- ice, gentle mobilization and pain relief

prognosis
A
- 6-8 weeks
- EXCELLENT if dedicated to recovery and young
