- pain and tenderness b/w ribs
- worsens with movement or deep breaths

- schepelman’s test (pain on convex side)
- rib inhalation compression test
- forestier bowstrings
- chest expansion

- x-rays if suspecting fracture

- adjust to patient tolerance
- may not want to take deep breaths
- might not be able to do activator
