A
- a male b/w 15-35 comes in complaining of insidious diffuse, dull pain in his SI joints that is disturbing to sleep

A
- piriformis syndrome
- Ostoarthritis
- DJD

supporting factors
A
- low back pain (dull and stiffness)
- prolonged stiffness
- loss of SC motion
- male
- b/w 15-35 yrs old
- worst when resting in bed and morning
- lumbosacral pain w/ radiation to the thigh

refuting factors
A
- older patient (older than 45)
- acute onset
- sharp pain
- worse with movement and better with rest

A
- forestier’s bowstring
- amoss’ sign
- chest expansion test
- lewin supine test

referrals
A
- blood test for HLA-B27 gene or substances indicating inflammatory process
- x-ray to check sacrolitis
- gp for analgesics
- physiotherapist to alleviate painand inc. spinal mobility

contraindications
A
- may have increased risk of osteoporosis and compression fractures

technique
A
a low force technique

care plan
A
2 x a week for 4 weeks then progress

recommendations
A
- no cure but can take analgesics
- education into stretching and pulmonary exercises

prognosis
A
- fair to poor - may continue to progress depending on the extent and how much physiotherapy they do
