Thoarcic Arteries/Veins Flashcards
(lungs, veins, arteries etc)
where does the carotid artery branch from?
the aortic arch or the brachiocephalic
Name the upper limb pulses
Cartoid
Subcalvian
Axillary
Brachial
Radial
Ulnar
where is the pulse found for the cartoid artery?
anterior to midpoint of sternomastoid muslce
where is the pulse found for the subclavian artery?
Posterior/behind mid clavicle
where is the pulse found for the axillary artery?
medial humerus, posterior to coracobrachialis
where is the pulse found for the brachial artery?
medial to biceps tendon (above the elbow)
what happens to the subclavian artery at the axilla?
It becomes the axillary artery
what happens to the carotid artery at C3?
it divides into internal and external cartoid arteries
where does the subclavian artery arise from?
the aortic arch or brachiocephalic trunk
When does the axillary artery become the brachial artery?
at the lower border of the teres major
Where does the brachial artery end?
ends anterior to the radius by dividing into radial and ulnar arteries
Where is the pulse found for the radial artery?
lateral to Flexor Carpi Radialis on anteiror wrist
Where is the pulse found for the ulnar artery?
lateral to Flexor Carpi Ulnaris on anteiror wrist
where does the ulnar artery end?
at the pisiform/hook of hamate by dividing into deep and superficial palmar arteries
Name the lower limb pulses
External Iliac Artery
Femoral Artery
Popliteal Artery
Anterior Tibial Artery
Posterior Tibial Artery
Dorsalis Pedis
Where is the external iliac artery found?
Medial thigh
- lies anteiror to psaos major
- under midpoint of ingunial ligament
What is the pathway of the femoral artery?
it enters through the subsartorial canal and passes through adductor magnus to posterior knee
subsartorius canal –> adductor magnus –> posterior knee
Where is the popliteal artery found?
midpoint of posteiror knee crease
where is the anteior tibial artery found?
anteior to the medial malleolus
where is the posterior tibial artery found?
behind the medial malleolus,
under the gastroc/soleus and on top of the FHL and FDL
Name the superfical veins of the upper body
Cephalic Vein
Basilic Vein
what are the features of the cephalic vein?
-lies on posterior aspect of full arm
-drains into axillary vein
where is the basilic vein found?
it lies on the medial aspect of full arm and becomes the axillary vein
Name the superfical veins of the lower body
Short Saphenous- posterior leg
Long Saphenous- medial leg
