Play therapy
Natural means of expression
Used as therapeutic method
To assist children with emotional stress and trauma.
Through play therapy ➡️ use new coping mechanism, and redirect inappropriate behaviors.
What happens in play therapy.
Allows children to manipulate the world on smaller scale.
Plays with especially selected material + with guidance of a person who reacts in a designated manner.
Child displays emotions and brings our hidden deep emotions.
Answers are are accepted, without reacting to them in shock or emotions as such.
Children should be convinced that they are free to express their feelings, and its a non punitive environment.
2types:
Directive: therapist takes the lead, select materials, guide the plat with specific goals in mind.
Non directive: less structured.child chooses toys, and fee free to play in their own way.
How a non directive play therapy is done
•Identification of the child
•Deciding how to conduct the session ( separate or sitting next to the child in class.)
•obtaining materials
•meeting with the child and introducing him/her to the environment.
•informing the child of the limitations
•allow children to choose toys and games
•if the child wants to leave, allow but dont allow him to come back the same day
• use reflection method, to answer
• refrain form offering judgements, interpretations.
•asking probing questions

Who can use play therapy
