Theoretical Aspects of Research Flashcards
What is Reliability?
The ability for a piece of research to be repeated
What is Standardisation?
When all research processes are kept the same throughout the study
What is Representativeness?
When the target population is represented with your study
What is Generalisability?
The ability for research to be applied accurately to the target population
What is Objectivity?
When a researchers own opinions do not impact the research
What is Subjectivity?
When a researchers own opinions do impact the research
What is Quantitative Data?
Numerical data which can be easily analysed
What is Qualitative Data?
Data consisting of words that is up to interpretation
What is Validity?
How true a piece of research is to its initial purpose
What is Verstehen?
The ability for the researcher to see the world through the eyes of their participants
What is going native?
When a researcher mirrors the behaviours of the target population to the point they are subjective
What is Researcher Bias?
The opinions of the researcher possibly affecting research
What is Social Desirability of the researcher?
How the researcher might construct their research in relation to their own beliefs
What is Social Desirability of the participant?
How a participant might respond to a piece of research based on what they find to be socially acceptable
