what is peacekeeping?
keeping peace in the world through sending troops to join UN activities, prevent & deter conflict through non violence
how much does it cost the UN for peacekeeping? what barriers have they faced?
over £5 billion per year, can be difficult to get financial support as it has to be discussed and agreed to by UN officials/ security council > delaying missions
what are sanctions? example
states refuse to supply weapons or trade with offending govs. e.g sanctions against North Korea 2004 development nuclear power, threats to neighbouring countries
