Why do NGO’s maintain a neutrality and distance from govs? how do they do this?
Don’t take sides as that makes them a less likely target, don’t wear a uniform so can’t be easily identified and accused of being apart of conflict and don’t take funding from govs.

water aid- water, sanitation & hygiene
action for hunger- malnourished children & access safe water
medecins sans frontieres- in confict zones coutnries with endemic diseases

what are NGO’s
Non-profit, voluntary citizens’ groups, principally independent from government, which are organised on a local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good.

what are benefits of the EU?
-single market
-customs union (no tariffs)
-freedom of movement for people in EU
-common policies of fishing, trading, travelling, agriculture

how has brexit affected fishing in?
boats from EU no longer allowed to fish in UK
after 2026 annual meetings held to share catch between EU & UK
how has brexit affected migration?
-can’t work + live freely in EU without work visas
-visa applicant needs 70 points main factors: job offer, job middle skill, english language skills
-need a work permit + job offer
how has brexit affected trade?
-Individual countries have been putting tariffs on UK goods
-delays at border, all goods need a detailed customs declaration (must be checked)
-no free movement of goods,
how has brexit affected travel?
-now UK citizens must pay ETIAS (7 euros)
-pets must be microchipped
-to stay more then 90 days in EU need visa
-can’t take meat + diary
how can conflicts be prevented?
sanctions, mediation, force
how does improving people’s life prevent confilct?
less resources to fight over
what is mediation? how does it work best?
brings 2 sides together of a conflict, to negotiate thru war talks, gov who is neutral & respected by both sides brought in to support
what are sanctions and why are they imposed?
A penalty for breaking rules, especially international settings as it sends a message of a gov’s stance and lack of condolence.
why are sanctions against nations not used?
ordinary people suffer the consequences, which is unfair
how do sanctions prevent conflict?
as a deterent since they can be extreme consequences, such as financial sanctions, travel bans (removing an individual’s freedom)
