The upper limb - nerves Flashcards
What are the 3 main nerves for the upper limb?
Radial
Ulnar
Median
What is the route for the radial nerve?
Travels anterior to the lateral epiondyle in the posterior forearm, divides into a deep branch (motor) and a superficial branch (sensory)
What is the route for the ulnar nerve?
Descends medically at humerus, passes posterior to elbow, travels deep into muscles alongside ulnar, divides into several branches.
What is the route for the median nerve?
Descends medically at the humerus, enters anterior compartment of forearm between heads of pronator teres. Travels down and enters hand through carpal tunnel
What does the ulnar nerve innervate?
2 forearm muscles
majority of hand muscles
sensation of little finger
What does the median nerve innervate?
Flexor and pronator
Thenar muscles
sensation of palm, index and middle finger
