Aim is to ensure that justice is delivered fairly for all
Who does the criminal justice system work in partnership with?

What is the role of the courts?
The Crown Prosecution Service is the place where a decision is made about whether or not to press charges
Less serious crimes are dealt with in magistrates courts and serious crimes are dealt with in crown courts
What is the role of the police?
Main agency responsible for law enforcement
They are there to maintain social order and respond to crimes, as well as to report, record and investigate crime
What is the role of probation services?
Follow people who have been convicted of a crime or who are waiting to be convicted, and monitor their choices and behaviour
What is the role of prisons?
Variety of types of prisons
Aims of which is to remove criminals from society to reduce their potential harming of others, while at the same time punishing the criminals by removing their freedom
What is the role of community service?
Monitor those doing community service and try to work with individuals and groups to avoid people committing further crime
