The organisation of cells Flashcards
explain how in complex organisms, cells are organised into tissues, organs and organ systems
What is a tissue
group of speacilised cells carrying out a particualr function in the body
What are tissues
Tissues are groups of similar cells that all develop from the same kind of cell
What are the main 4 tissue types in the human body
Epithelial tissue , connective tissue , muslce tissue and nervous tissue
What are epithelial tissues
are tissues that form the lining of surfaces inside and outside the body
where are squamous epithelieum found
found in lining the surfaces of blood vessles
What does SE form
forms the walls of capillaires and the lining of the alevoli
Explain cilliated epthial cells
they contain goblet cells that produce mucus
What does CEC form
form the surfaces of tubes in the gas exchange system and the oviduts
How does the CEC work
The regular waving of the cilia from side to side moves materails along inside the tubes
Where are compound epthielia cells found
found where the surface is continaully scartached anad abraded i.e skin
How does the structure of compound epithelia cells relate to the function
the thickenss of the tissue protects what lies beneath as new cells continue to grow
What is the organ system
group of organs working together to carry out particualr functions in the body
What is an organ
structure made up of several different types of tissues grouped together to carry out a particular function in the body
Describe the processes that take place inside a cell during specialisation
Genes in the DNA are ‘switched on ‘ or ‘off’
Translation of mRNA to create proteins
Proteins determine what a cell will look like and what a cell will do
