Cell Cycle Flashcards
What is the cell cycle
regulated process in which cells divide into two identical daughters it consists of three stages : interphase , mitosis, cytokensis
What happens in mitosis
(Stages in mitosis)
What happens in cytokensis
final stages of the cell divsion when the new cells seperate
What are the 3 stages of interphase
G1
S
G2
What happens in G1 stage
proteins are synthesised, organelles replicate and the cell increase in size
What happens in the S stage
DNA is replicated in the nucleus
What happens in the G2
Duplicate DNA is error checked and the energy stores grow and the cell size grows
What happens in interphase:
cells not activley dividing
DNA is replicated and checked for errors
Protein sytnehis
What happens to the gentic materiel during the cell cycle
GM must undergo replication before a cell enters mitosis.
DNA replication results in 2 identical copies of the DNA
When do cells divide ?
an organism becomes damaged and needs to produce new cells
an organism grows
