The Muscular System Flashcards
Helps the body move from one position to another
The muscular system
What are the three types of muscles?
-Skeletal
-Smooth
-Cardic
How many skeletal muscles are there in the body?
There are about 600 skeletal muscles and are usually found attached to the bone.
What are the functions of the skeletal muscles?
Contract in order to move muscles
Skeletal muscles are also known as?
Voluntary or Striated muscles
Allows the contraction of muscles resulting in motion. More specifically, they are the motor units of the skeletal muscle
Sarcomeres
Repeating units of a sarcomere makes up a?
Muscle fiber
What are Sarcomeres composed of?
Actin and Myosin
What are the structures of Sarcomeres?
Z-line
M-lin
H-band
I-Band
A-band
A sarcomere structure wherein the Myosin heads are not present
H-band
A sarcomere structure where the actin is connected to
Z-line
A sarcomere structure that acts as an attachment point to the thick filaments
M-Line
A sarcomere structure that consists of thin filaments that do not overlap with thick filaments
I-bands
A sarcomere structure consisting of thick and thin filaments including the myosin head
A-band
This is the arrangement of the different components in the sarcomere and its collective functions in order to induce muscular contractions
