A

Established a secret alliance with other Indian tribes to protect their land west of the Appalachians during the War of 1812

General William Henry Harrison’s attack on Tecumseh’s village along with other attacks on Indians by Andrew Jackson intensified the rivalry and were essentially the only american success in the War of 1812

A

Occurred while/after the British burned down Washington, D.C.
Ended the War of 1812
Englishmen didn’t want military occupation in the America’s since they had just finished fighting in the napoleonic wars
*restored diplomatic relation between the US and Britain
- due to poor communication fighting continued after the treaty was signed: Battle of New Orleans (increased American confidence and Jackson’s popularity)

General James Wilkinson

A

Military governor of Louisiana
Burr met him when he fled west to avoid going to jail for murdering Alexander Hamilton
Wanted to turn LA into an independent nation with Burr as its leader
Betrayed Burr and had him arrested who was acquitted (thanks to John Marshall- no thanks to Jefferson) but revealed deep divisions developing in the US

Federalist: Adams (with vp Pickney) vs Republican: Jefferson (w/ vp Aaron Burr)

  • tue in electoral college brought decision to House of Representatives where each state got one vote
  • many federalists supported Burr for president but Hamilton convinced federalists to switch their votes to Jefferson as he saw that Burr was unfit
  • aka Revolution of 1800 because Jefferson had no federalist views
