Some say marry money but my brother says big breast matter most
What is the facial muscle that surrounds the eye? what are the two parts?
Orbicularis oculii- orbital part and palpebral (eyelid) parts
What is the facial muscle that surrounds the mouth?
Orbicularis Oris - used to help form words and hold mouth shut when you chew.
What is the muscle that helps suck and blow and define the volume of your mouth? What important vessel pierces the muscle?
The Buccinator, the parotid duct
which veins join together to form the retromandibular vein?
The maxilary (Coming via pterigoid plexus) and the superficial temporal
Which veins join to form the common facial vein?
The facial vein and the anterior division of the retromandibular vein
What two veins join to form the external jugular vein?
The posterior branch of the retromandibular and the posterior auricle veins
What are some possible paths tha would allow the spread of infection from the superficial face into the brain?
The angular vein has connections with the superior opthalmic, which connects to coronary sinus which connects to dural venous sinus = meninges. The deep facial vein connects to the pterigoid plexus which connects to the inferior opthalmic which connects to the coronary sinus etc.
What are the branches of the facial nerve?
Posterior Auricle, Temporal, Zygomatic, bucal, marginal mandibular, cervical
What innervates the parotid gland?
Glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX) via the auriculotemporal branch of V3
What are the three divisions of trigem and what foramen do they exit on the face?
V1 - (opthalmic) supratrochlear nerves exit via the supraorbital foramen. V2 (maxilary)- Infraorbital nerve exits via the infraorbital foramen. V3 (mandibular)- Mental Nerve exits via the mental foramen
What is the foramen that the facial nerve exits before entering the parotid gland?
the stylomastoid foramen
What are some tell tale signs of bells palsy?
Lost of blink reflex and unilateral facial paralysis. crocodile tears.
What are the boundaries of the infratemporal fossa?
Anteriorly, the posterior border of the maxila, laterally the ramus of the mandible, posteriorly the mastoid and styloid processes of the temporal bone, and medially the leteral pterygoid plate
