Arm & Forearm muscles Flashcards
Anterior Compartment of the arm (flexors)
biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis; musculocutaneous nerve (C5-7)
Biceps Brachii
musculocutaneous nerve (C5-7); supination of forearm, flexion of elbow jt, flexion of shoulder jt
Coracobrachialis
musculocutaneous nerve (C5-7); adduction of the arm, flexion of the arm (DOES NOT ACT ON THE FOREARM NO NO NO NO NO)
Brachialis
musculocutaneous nerve (C5-7); flexion of forearm (the only pure flexor)
Posterior Compartment of the arm (extensors)
triceps brachii, anconeus; radial nerve (C5-T1)
Triceps Brachii
Extension of forearm (main-medial head,
long and lateral heads-active in extension against resistance)
Extension of shoulder;
Radial nerve
Anconeus
Extension of the elbow; radial nerve (attaches to lateral epicondyle and olecranon process)
Anterior Compartment of the forearm (flexor-pronator)- Superficial & Intermediate muscles
pronator teres, flexor carpi radialis, palmaris longus, flexor carpi ulnaris, flexor digitorum superficialis
Pronator Teres
pronation of forearm, (weak) flexion of forearm at elbow; median nerve (C5-T1)
Flexor Carpi Radialis
flexion of hand at wrist, abduction of the wrist; median nerve (C5-T1)
Palmaris Longus
flexion of the wrist; median nerve (C5-T1)
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
adduction of the wrist, flexion of the wrist; ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
flexes proximal interphalangeal, metacarpophalangeal, & wrist joints; median nerve (C5-T1)
Short answer: flexes wrist and fingers, median n.
Anterior Compartment of the forearm (flexor-pronator)- Profound layer
pronator quadratus, flexor digitorum profundus, flexor pollicis longus
Pronator Quadratus
pronation of the forearm; anterior interosseous (branch of median nerve)
