What are the major endocrine glands?
Pituitary, Hypothalamus, Thyroid, Parathyroid, Adrenal, Gonads, Pancreas
In the endocrine system what does negative feedback mean?
It means that when the level of a hormone is elevated in the blood it feeds back on the gland that produced it signalling for its production to be reduced to return that level to normal.
In the endocrine system what does positive feedback mean?
It means that when the level of a hormone is reduced in the blood it feeds back on the gland that produced it signalling for its production to be increased to return that level to normal.
Which endocrine gland connects the central nervous system with the endocrine system?
The Hypothalamus
What does the thyroid gland produce?
Thyroid hormones (T4 and T3)
What 2 hormones control the level of glucose in the blood?
Insulin and Glucagon
What is the main hormone produced by the testes?
Testosterone
What is the main hormone produced by the ovaries?
Estrogen
What does Estrogen do?
Estrogens are responsible for the physical and behavioral changes that prepare the female for breeding and pregnancy and signal the male that the time for breeding is approaching.
