The Earths Atmosphere: GreenHouse Effect. Flashcards
What are the greenhouse gases?
- Methane.
- Carbon Dioxide.
- Water Vapour.
What greenhouses do in the atmosphere?
1) Energy from the sun travels to the Earth in short-wave length radiation (UV and visible light).
2) Some of the short-wave length energy reflects back to space but most passes easily through the atmosphere.
- Because some short wavelength radiation does not interact strongly with the gas molecules in the atmopshre.
3) Energy of the radiation is absorbed when it reaches the surface of the Earth.
4) Surface of the earth radiates the energy as long-wave length radiation.
5) Some of the long-wavelength radiation interacta with the gas molecules in the atmosphere so is asborbed.
6) Energy os trapped in atmopshere so the temperature of the atmopshere invreases.
