Reversible Reactions: Flashcards
1
Q
How do we know if a reaction is reversible through the chemical equation?
A
- It has a arrow going left and right if it is reverisble.
- It has a signle arrow if it is not reversible.
2
Q
What is a reversible reaction?
A
- Products are able to react to reform to the original reactants.
- Reversible reactions.
- ## Change the direction of reversible reactions by changing the conditions.
3
Q
What are the energy changes like in reversible reactions?
A
- Heat up the hydrated copper sulfate (blue) it reacts to form anhydrous copper sulfate (white).
- Also produces water.
Points:
- Heating –> Putting energy in (endothermic forward reaction).
- Add water back–> Reaction reverses–> Energy is released (Exothermic).

4
Q
If a reversible reaction is exothermic in one direction what will be the other direction?
A
- The opposite direction will be endothermic.
- ## Same amount of energy is transferred in each case.
5
Q
What is an equaliberian?/
A
- When both the forward and reverse reaction takes place at exactly the same rate.
