Combustion of Hydrocarbons. Flashcards
1
Q
What do Hydrocarbon fuels release when they combust?
A
- Energy.
-
2
Q
What happens during combustion?
A
- Carbon and Hydrogen atoms in the fuel react with oxygen.
- The carbon and hydrogen are oxidised.
- If oxygen is unlimited Produces: Carbon Dioxide + Water.
- Complete combustion.
3
Q
What is incomplete combustion?
A
- Takes place when there is not enough oxygen present.
- Produces Carbon Monoxide and Water.
