The Earth's Atmosphere In The Past Flashcards
1
Q
How do scientists think the Earth’s early atmosphere was formed?
A
By volcanoes that released carbon Dioxide, water vapour and nitrogen.
2
Q
How were oceans formed?
A
As the Earth cooled, mist of the water vapour condensed to form the oceans.
3
Q
What did the Early atmosphere mainly consist of?
A
Carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane, nitrogen and water vapour.
4
Q
How could the presence of plants have changed the amount of gases in the early atmosphere?
A
Plants use carbon dioxide for photosynthesis which releases oxygen so as the number of plants increased, the amount of carbon dioxide decreased and the amount of oxygen increased.
5
Q
When do scientists think the Earth was formed?
A
About 4.6 billion years ago
