Q

What are the uses of determining the genome of simpler organisms?

A
  • Allows the sequences of the proteins in the proteome of the organism to be determined
  • This can be used to identify potential antigens for vaccine production

Q

Why is determining the genome of simpler organisms easier than in more complex organisms?

A
  • Simple organisms e.g bacteria don’t have much non-coding DNA so genome can be easily translated into proteome
  • Complex organisms have large sections of non-coding DNA: regulatory genes (transcription factors), introns, base repeats
