The Circulatory System Flashcards
Heart rate pulse
How many times the heart beats per minute
Stroke volume
The amount of blood pumped out by the ventricles per beat
Cardiac output
Amount of blood pumped per minute
Heartbeat
One complete contraction of the heart
What are the roles of the blood?
To transport nutrients and remove unwanted waste products
To regulate body temp
To protect against disease with antibodies
What is the recovery process?
The body returning to normal
The heart rate is still increased to allow blood to deliver oxygen and nutrients fast enough and kt remove waste products like lactic acid and carbon dioxide.
The breathing rate to bring in more oxygen.
An effective recovery will
- contain light exercise to maintain elevated breathing rate and deliver oxygen and glucose to repay oxygen debt
- allow the lactic acid to disperse safely
- stretching to make sure the muscles are repaired and to prevent soreness
- dietary factors such as nutrients and water lost during exercise
- sweating regulates body temp
