Factors That Affect Performance Flashcards
Disability
Physical or mental
Permanent or temporary
Different classifications for each disability in sport that ensure disabled competitors are competing against others who have the same or similar disability levels to make it fair.
How are physical activities organised to take into account the factoring disablitlity?
Adapted activities- wheelchair rugby
Adapted equipment- ball bearings inside of footballs for blind footballers.
Disablitlity classifications- so competitors can compete with others who have the same or similar levels of disability to ensure it is fair.
Disability provisions- wheelchair parking, lifts, ramps, toilets.
Age
Strength- increases peaking in about the 20s and 30s and then starts to decrease in your 40s as your protein and muscle mass is harder to build up.
Flexibility is best at a young age, but quite good in your teens and then it starts to decrease.
Injury- risk to injury and disease increases as bone become brittler and recovery time is longer
Oxygen capacity- decreases as you get older.
Skill- increases until you get into your 30s but learning ability and knowledge can improve.
Gender
Males are usually stronger, faster, taller, more powerful, heavier and have a faster metabolism and a larger oxygen carrying capacity. They also have wide shoulders and narrow hips.
Females are usually smaller, lighter, more flexible and have wider hips and narrow shoulders.
What is age a factor of?
A physiological factor
What is the name for the differences in gender between males and females?
Anatomical differences
Endomorph
Wide hips, narrow shoulders, thin wrists and ankles, high percentage of body fat, trouble losing weight, suited to sports like wrestling and shotput where weight and centre of mass is an advantage.
Ectomorph
Thin, long arms and legs, thin face, narrow shoulders chest and hips. Suited to activities where being tall and thin helps like long distance running and high jump.
Mesomorph
V shaped muscular wide shoulders, strong arms and thighs, not much body fat. Suited to most sports as they can build up muscle quickly, and where they need to support their weight using their upper body like in sprinting and gymnastics.
What js your optimum weight?
The weight that you will perform your best at activities you do.
What could make two peoples of the same heights optimum weight different?
Their bone structure- some people have larger bone structure
Their muscle girth- measurement of the circumference of your muscles.
Gender- girls usually have a lighter bone structure and less muscle mass.
Activity- some activities require you to be a certain weight.
Age- as you get older you tend to lose muscle and bone density.
