What does play safe include?
Environment- check weather, terrain, glass, obstacles
Equipment- check personal wrist guards, shin pads, straps and general mats, post protectors
Clothing- tight fitting, non slip, footwear, no jew leery, no gum,
Specific rules- entering the correct category, being a member if a club, weight categories
During performance- officials must be followed, rules and regulation, correct technique.
Prio preparation- warm up to increase blood flow to musckes in preparation for exercise, increase muscle contraction speed, stretch to allow full movement. Cool down to allow a safe recovery.
Safety for specific activities
Water based- lifeguards
Athletic- spiked running shoes for some events, pole vault need safe landing
Games- first aid, footwear, protection
Fitness and health- spotting
Outdoor- harnesses, safety ropes, helmets, assistants

Technological advances in sport equipment
Rackets have become lighter and now made of carbon- fibre rather than wood, can be larger but lighter strings are nylon that allows more tension.
Pole vaults- made originally of bamboo, now carbon fibre so can reach higher and so therefore landing areas are more foam padded up to 1.5 metres thick.
Footballs- lighter not made if leather so don’t hurt to header and have faster reactions to where they are hit.
Gymnastics- lighter, springer floors, larger vault, more cushioned beam, so can perform floor moves on beam

Swimming costumes were made to be body suits
Lighter clothing more cyclists, runners, allow perspiration.
Footwear- more specific, can be partly inflatable for perfect grip.
