Q

A tiger develops lockjaw and can no longer open its mouth. What criteria for life will he not be able to perform?

A

It will not be able to eat so it will not be able to extract energy and maintain its metabolic processes, so its metabolism will be affected.

Q

Explain the difference between an observation and an inference

A

An observation is made using one of the 5 senses, i.e. describing something you see, hear, smell, touch, or taste. An inference is a logical interpretation based on prior knowledge or experience

Q

Explain why it can be said that most of life on Earth gets its energy from the sun.

A

All life requires energy to power activities. Autotrophs can make their own food and they use the energy from the sun to do that. Heterotrophs will eat autotrophs or other heterotrophs that eat autotrophs to get the energy they need. So since all organisms either make their food using the energy from the sun or eat an organism that makes its own food, it can be said that all life on Earth ultimately gets its energy from the sun.
