TERMS II Flashcards
internally rotated leg at the hip joint, due to soft tissue causes
Causes STJ pronation to compensate by externally rotating the leg
internally rotated leg at the hip joint, due to osseous causes, this is called?
Hip Anteversion
Hip Retrotorsion
angle between femoral condyles & head/neck of femur
Normal in kids is 30° , but reduces to 8-12° in adults
Internal position causes in-toe position & STJ pronation to compensate
Internal Femoral Torsion
externally rotated leg at the hip joint, due to soft tissue causes
Increasing the angle of gait, increases the center of mass medially, & causes pronation
externally rotated leg at the hip, due to osseous causes, this is called?
Hip Retroversion
Hip Antetorsion
evaluated by malleolar position (fibula is involved too)
Normal in kids is 0-5° external, normal in adults is 18-23° external
Compensate by pronating the STJ & abducting he foot
Internal Tibial Torsion
(knock kneed) knee in valgus & tibia everted in frontal plane (tibia is straight)
Physiologic between ages 3-5 (should be gone by age 8)
Compensate by pronating STJ
Genu Valgum
if discovered late or untreated can cause rigid flat foot?
Convex Pes Valgus
1 cause of rigid flatfoot, w/ or w/o peroneal spasm?
Tarsal Coalition
deep heel cup, should only be used in kids (not for adults); types A&B most common
Heel Stabilizers
standard device for controlling STJ & locking MTJ
Shaffer modification
Functional Foot Orthotics
good for mild-moderate flexible flatfoot
OTC Orthotics
