Computer Aided Design (CAD)
This involves digitally designing the look and function of a product before it is manufactured.
Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM)
This involves using computer controlled equipment and robots in the manufacturing of a product.
Internet Websites
These can be used to compare the prices of different suppliers before deciding which one to purchase from.
This can be used to confirm an order has been received and to let the customer know about the progress and status of the order.
Electronic Point of Sales (EPOS) / Barcodes
This can provide automatic updates on inventory and sales levels.
Barcodes can also be used in flow production to ‘check in’ and ‘check out’ parts as they move between stages/areas of the factory.
CCTV
Security cameras used in the warehouse to deter theft.
Metal Detectors
Used in production to check that pieces of metal are not present in products.
Also used in large warehouse to deter theft of some items.
