Advertising is about communicating information to your customer.
What are informative adverts?
These increase awareness of a product/service and inform customers about the product/service.
What are persuasive adverts?
These aim to persuade a consumer to buy the product by emphasising its desirability.

An organisation pays to have a short advert played during the advert break of a TV programme.

Can be seen by a large range of people- encouraging new customers as well as reminding existing ones.
What’s a disadvantage of television advertising?
Very expensive method- particularly if you want to advertise during the most popular TV shows.
What is the description of newspaper/magazine advertising?
An organisation pays to have an advert placed in a particular newspaper or magazine to target a certain market segment.
What’s an advantage of newspaper/magazine advertising?
Can target particular customers based on their interests.
What’s a disadvantage of newspaper/magazine advertising?
Number of people reading print media is declining.
What is the description of radio advertising?
An organisation pays to have a jingle/announcement played between songs on particular radio stations.
What’s an advantage of radio advertising?
Catchy slogans/jingles can be used to make your product/service memorable.
What’s a disadvantage of radio advertising?
As product/service can’t be shown, may be unsuitable for some businesses who rely on the look of a product to entice customers (e.g. food products)

An organisation can pay to have pop-up adverts appear on popular websites.
An organisation can also have adverts on their own website to promote current and future products.

Websites are accessed by a wide range of demographics.

Internet pop-ups can be annoying for customers which may detract from product image.

Suitable for targeting customers in a particular geographic location.

Will be mostly seen by moving traffic who may not fully read/take in the information.

An organisation uses Facebook/Instagram/Twitter to make announcements about products/services.

Can be instantly seen by customers.
What’s a disadvantage of social media advertising?
Negative comments from disgruntled customers/competitors can affect your image.
What is the description of SMS/text messaging advertising?
An organisation texts customers to inform them of latest offers (eg Domino’s texting on a Tuesday).
What’s an advantage of SMS/text messaging advertising?
Promotions/deals can be changed frequently and shared quickly with customers.
What’s a disadvantage of SMS/text messaging advertising?
Requires you to have the customer’s contact details in the first place so unsuitable method for new businesses.
