Talus Flashcards
True or false?
The three parts of the talus are the rectangular head, neck, and a thin body!
False, the talus has a rounded head, a neck, and an expanded body.
What is the rounding of the talus head for?
The doming is divided into 4:
1) Articular surface for navicular
2) Anterior calcaneal surface
3) Middle calcaneal surface
4) Medial of that for articulation with the naviculocalcaneal ligament.
What is a mark of the neck of the talus?
Sulcus tali.
It courses forward obliquely from medial to lateral, expanding on its lateral side.
What does the superior aspect of the body of talus get divided into?
The medial, lateral, and superior surface.
What is the articulation for all the aspects of the superior surfaces of talus?
Superior: fibula
Medial: medial malleolus
Lateral: lateral malleolus
True or false?
The medial malleolus is bigger and projects more inferiorly!
False, the lateral malleolus is bigger and more inferior.
What is a structure that supports the lateral malleolus?
The lateral process.
What does the inferior surface of the talus contain?
The posterior calcaneal articular surface.
The label “posterior” does not necessarily denote that it is on the “posterior” of the calcaneus or the “posterior” of the talus, it is just more posterior.
What tendon passes on the … surface of the talus?
Flexor hallicis longus, posterior in between the lateral and medial processes.
What can fracture of the talus cause?
Arterial network damage, osteonecrosis, and premature osteoarthritis.
