Dermatomes of the foot Flashcards
What are the L1 dermatomes?
Over the inguinal ligament.
What are the L2 dermatomes?
Lateral thigh.
What are the myotomic functions of L1-L2?
Flexion of the thigh.
What are the dermatomes of L3?
Medial of the thigh.
What are the dermatomes of L4?
Medial of the great toe.
What are the myotomic functions of L3-L4?
Extension of the thigh.
What are the dermatomes of L5?
Medial of the second toe digit.
What are the myotomic functions of L5-S2?
Flexion at genu.
What are the dermatomes of S1?
Little toe.
What are the dermatomes of the S2?
The back of the thigh.
What are the myotomic functions of S1-S2?
Most of the plantarflexion of the foot.
What are the dermatomes of S3?
The skin over gluteal fold.
What are the myotomic functions of S2-S3?
Adduction of the digits.
What does the femoral nerve innervate sensorically?
Anterior of the thigh, medial side of leg and ankle.
What does the obturator nerve innervate sensorically?
Medial thigh.
What does the tibial part of the sciatic nerve innervate sensorically?
Lateral ankle and the foot.
What does the superficial fibular nerve innervate sensorically?
Dorsum of the foot except for lateral of the little toe (sural nerve from the fibular and tibial branch of the scatic nerve).
What does the deep fibular nerve innervate sensorically?
Between the first and second toe.
What is the purpose of knee reflex patellar ligament check?
L3-L4 sensory-motoric functions.
What is the purpose of calcaneal tendon reflex check?
Indicator of S1-S2 function.
What are the pulse points of the lower limb?
Femoral pulse, popliteal pulse, posterior tibial pulse, and dorsalis pedis pulse.
What are the 4 determinants of gait?
Pelvic rotation, hip adduction, knee flexion, pelvic tilt.
What does pelvic rotation do to gait?
Lengthen the lower limbs and resulting in the non-lowering of the gravity centre.
What does hip adduction do?
Makes sure that the knee doesn’t move too laterally, causing the centre of gravity to not stray too laterally from the midline.
What does knee flexion do to gait?
Makes sure the knee is shortened when standing so that the centre of gravity doesn’t move up and stays low.
What does pelvic drop contribute to gravity centre?
Pelvic drop during the rise of a leg
