Anterior and posterior tibial arteries and veins Flashcards
What does the anterior tibial artery pass through?
The interosseus membrane.
What is a branch of the posterior tibial artery?
The circumflex fibular artery is a branch of the posterior tibial artery.
What is the posterior tibial artery called before branching?
The tibiofibular trunk that divides into the posterior tibial and the fibular artery.
What is the first branch of the posterior tibial artery?
The fibular artery.
What is the posterior tibial artery’s location?
It descends through the deep posterior muscle compartment and the superficial surface of the tibialis posterior and flexor digitorum longus muscles.
What is the course of the posterior tibial artery?
It descends through the posterior compartment of the leg and then creates 2 offshoots:
1) the medial malleolar branch
2) the calcaneal branch
and then has terminal branches, the medial and lateral plantar arteries.
We differentiate between posterior tibial and tibiofibular trunk.
What is the course of the fibular artery?
It ends as a contributor to the calcaneus artery network but before that branches an offshoot into the lateral maleolus.
What does the anterior tibial artery supply?
The dorsal side of the foot eventually.
What does the tibiofibular trunk shoot off into?
The circumflex fibular artery.
What is the course of the deep tibial veins?
Along the course of the artery.
What is the course of the anterior tibial artery?
It gives off an anterior and posterior recurrent branch to supply the patella and then distally it gives off two branches, an anterior medial and lateral malleolar artery.
