Tail Flashcards
High set, with posterior curve of buttock extending beyond root of tail giving a reachy appearance to hindquarters. Curls tightly over spine and lies closely to thigh with a single or double curl.
Basenji
Sturdy, moderately long. Set on high, carried gaily but not curled over back or inclined forward from root. Well covered with hair, especially on underside.
Beagle
(Stern) Long, thick, tapering to a point, set high with moderate amount of hair underneath. Carried scimitar fashion, but not curled over back or corkscrew any time. When moving carried high.
Bloodhound
Curved forward from the set-on tightly along the back, then hanging down- and slightly tilted towards the rear and pressed against the thigh, the tip of the tail to reach down to the middle of the thigh. When straightened reaches approximately down to the hocks.
Finnish Spitz
Well set on high. Carried gaily but never curled over back.
Foxhound
In balance with the rest of the dog, set high and carried up from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock, depending on attitude. The tail is strong at the butt; tapers to a point. Tail is well covered with hair, especially on underside where the hair is slightly longer. The tail should not be curled over the back.
Harrier
Srong, set on high; thickly coated without plume; tightly curled, preferably over the centre line of back.
Norwegian Elkhound
(Stern) Set high, carried up when alert or moving, never curling over back and may droop when standing. Thick at base, tapering to point; bone reaching to hock and carried straight or in a slight curve. Hair under tail rather longer and more profuse than that on upper surface.
