General Appearance Flashcards
Lightly built, finely boned aristocratic-looking animal, high on leg compared with its length, always poised, alert and intelligent. Wrinkled head, with pricked ears, proudly carried on a well-arched neck. Deep brisket runs up into a definite waist, tail tightly curled presenting a picture of a well balanced dog of gazelle-like grace.
Basenji
A sturdy, compactly-built hound, conveying the impression of quality without coarseness.
Beagle
Noble and dignified expression, characterised by solemnity, wisdom and power.
Bloodhound
Smaller than medium-sized, almost square. In conformation lean, firm and carries himself well.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: The length of the body is the same as the height at withers. The depth of the chest is slightly less than half of the height at the withers. The ratio between the muzzle and skull is approximately 3:4. The skull is a little broader than long, the breadth is the same as the depth.

Well balanced, powerful and clean cut.
Foxhound
The points of the modern xxxx are very similar to those of the xxxx. The xxxx however is smaller than the xxxx: the most popular size is 19 to 21 inches (48.26 to 53.34 cm) Proportion - is off square. The xxxx is slightly longer from point of shoulder to rear projection of the upper thigh than from withers to ground. He is active, well balanced, full of strength and quality.
Harrier
Powerful; compact body; square outline and proud carriage; coat close and abundant but not open; upstanding pointed ears; tail tightly curled over back.
Norwegian Elkhound
Large, straight limbed and sound, rough coated with majestic head, strong body and loose, long striding action. Rough double coat and large feet essential. Free moving.
