T3 Possessions & Protection Zones (PZ) Flashcards
GERT8000-T3
(T3) Where are details of a T3 Possession given?
WON (Weekly Operating Notice)
or
Engineering Notice
(T3) The limits of a Possession may be changed as long as: __________
The details of the changes are published in the WON, EN or in exceptional circumstances authorised by Ops Control.
(T3) What are the 8 things you need to agree with the PICOP before you accept a possession of the line under Regulation T3?
Line to be taken under possession,
Time the possession is to be taken,
Will possession be taken around 1 or more trains,
Signals leading to the T3 that will be kept at danger,
Details of points/crossings that may be used for trains outside the possession,
Position that points inside the possession must be placed in,
Arrangements for any level crossings within the possession,
Exact location of detonator protection and if this is at a sub-standard distance.
(T3) When a T3 is to be taken or extended around a train, how is that train to be signalled?
Normally, until it arrives at the protecting signal or FTAP (Flexible Train Arrival Point).
You then tell the driver to make No Further Movements until authorised by the PICOP after the Possession has been granted.
(T3) What is the colour of armband for a PICOP and an Engineering Supervisor?
PICOP = ROY (Red on Yellow)
BOY = ES (Blue on Yellow)
(T3) Which number form is associated with possession arrangements?
RT3198
(T3) What are the types of protection that can be applied to protect a T3 Possession?
Detonators (x3, placed 20M apart) and PLBs (Possession Limit Boards)
A token (in Electronic Token Block areas) given to the PICOP
Signal Disconnection (completed by a signalling technician)
SPRS (Signal Post Replacement Switches)
(T3) When will a PICOP NOT provide detonator protection?
a siding, crossover or loop where it joins the line under possession
OR
on a single line where the PICOP has the token as protection.
(T3) Where will detonators be placed if they cannot be placed at the standard distance?
As close to the standard distance as possible
(T3) When one possession is immediately adjacent to another possession on the same running line, how many signals can be used to separate these possessions?
The same signal can be used. (i.e you don’t need two separate signals for the two possessions).
(T3) What must you do with the first train to pass over an area where a possession has been given up?
Specially watch the track circuits during the passage of the first train, to ensure the track circuits are operating normally.
(T3) When can you allow a 2nd train to pass over the line that was affected by the T3 Possession?
You cannot, unless there is a controlled signal that you have replaced to danger between the first and second trains.
(T3) If there is an intermediate block signal(s), you must not clear the section signal for a second train until: ________
the first train has arrived at the signal box in advance.
(PZ) What 9 things must you and the ES agree upon before setting up a Protection Zone?
Line the PZ will be set up on.
Locations the work will take place between.
Whether the PZ will be set up around a train.
Signal leading to the PZ that will be kept at danger.
Exit signal beyond the PZ that will be kept at danger.
Limits of the PZ (must be at least 400 metres beyond the protecting signal to at least 200 on approach to the exit signal).
Which signals may need to be passed at danger within the PZ, what wrong-direction movements may be necessary towards the start of the PZ - and that the ES can pass your authority for these movements to the driver.
What type of additional protection will be used.
