A

You can see the line is safe for trains to pass.

A

F - Fishplates broken (more than a single plate).
U - Underline bridge struck by road vehicle (unless otherwise
stated in SBSI).
S - Subsidence.
E - Earthworks/Landslips have been reported to be affected.
D - Damage to bridge not caused by road vehicle.

B - Broken, damaged or distorted rail.
O - Other structures above or below the rail.

A

That it has passed (C.W.T.L.) beyond the stop signal (or block marker) ahead of the affected portion of the line.

What is happening,

the locations between which the adjacent line is affected,

to pass this affected portion at caution,

to report as soon as possible is anything is seen to be wrong.

What must you tell the driver of the train used to examine the line, before they do so?

A

Why the line is to be examined,

reach a clear understanding with them about which portion of the line is to be examined,

when the signal is cleared (or authority given to pass it at danger), proceed at caution over the affected portion of line,

if the affected line is in a tunnel, go no faster than 10MPH through it,

if examined due to track defect, go no faster than 20MPH over it,

report back to the signaller at an agreed point beyond the affected portion of line.
