Stop & Examine Flashcards
GERT8000
As well as the ‘9 things to watch for as a train passes you’, what must you look for in the infrastructure when a train has passed, that would cause you to initiate ‘Stop & Examine’ regulations?
Multiple or sequential track circuit failures,
Multiple or sequential loss of detection of points.
What bell code is associated with the ‘Stop and Examine’ procedure?
7 bells, sent to the box in advance.
What are your immediate actions should you need to implement Stop & Examine procedures?
Stop the train concerned.
Stop trains on adjacent lines from passing the train concerned.
Stop trains proceeding on the same or any other line over the affected area.
Tell the signalller who controls the area from which the train approached what has happened.
If necessary, carry out Signalling Reg. 4.
Arrange for the train to be examined and dealt with as necessary.
If you need to Stop and Examine a train, what must you do if you cannot stop the train concerned before it enters an area controlled by another signaller?
Send the Emergency Alarm (TCB/ERTMS), or Stop & Examine train (AB).
Tell that signaller what has happened.
When may you allow normal working on unobstructed lines after invoking the Stop & Examine procedure?
Once the affected train has been stopped and you are certain that the line you intend to re-open is unobstructed.
If, after you stop a train and examine it, nothing wrong can be found - how must you signal the first train over the affected area on any line?
Stop the train.
Tell the driver: what has happened.
:to proceed through that area at caution.
: report the state of the line to the next signaller, or at a specified point ahead of the affected area.
After Stop & Examine procedures have been invoked - until you receive a report from a subsequent train, that the line is clear and safe for the passage of trains on all lines, how must you signal trains to pass through the affected area?
At Caution.
A problem has been found after Stop & Examine has been carried out, but the train cannot be dealt with where it is currently stopped. However the train is safe to proceed to a point where it can be dealt with. What must you agree with the signaller in advance of that train and how do you then signal the affected train?
Agree the arrangements with the signaller that controls the area ahead of the affected train,
Signal the train normally.
A train has been stopped and examined, and found to have a problem. It can be moved safely somewhere else for it to be dealt with - you must not allow that train to pass or be passed by any train on an adjacent line unless _________ ?
you have been assured that it can be done safely.
If you stop and examine a train due to a door being seen open, but it has been confirmed that no person has fallen from the train and the door has been closed - how do you signal trains?
You may resume normal working.
