T-38 System Test Review Flashcards
Can the engines be started in the rear cockpit?
Yes there are start buttons
However, it cannot be shutdown due to no fingerlifts and throttle gates
At mil power, nozzle is fluctuating between 20-22%. Is this acceptable?
No
Can you X-feed in the RCP?
No, no switch in the rear cockpit
Is there a battery switch in the rear cockpit? Generator switches?
Neither switches are in the RCP
Can interior cockpits be changed in the rear cockpit?
Yes, but no the exterior lights
What is powered by the static inverter?
Right Autosys Instruments
If the battery is on and the APU is plugged in but no power is received, what should the pilot do?
Recycle the battery switch
While moving the power to MIL, a right generator light illuminates. What is the likely problem? What is lost electrically?
GEN FAIL, Failure to shift, nothing lost electrically except the generator
What off indications would you lose if you lost the right GEN with no crossover?
Loss of HUD, UFCP, Snowman display on MFD. On EED: Fuel Flow, Oil Pressure, Fuel Quantity(both)
What are some considerations with TRANS RECT OUT illuminated?
Double TRU Fail. Battery is powering BAT BUS, both ESS BUS.
How do you extend the landing/taxi light?
Position light ON or DIM and gear extended
How do you dim the AOA indexer lights?
Dim knob on AOA gage
How do you dim the Gear lights, MASTER CAUTION, and caution panel lights
Instrument Rheostat out of the off position
T/F Either cockpit can independently control the UFCP
True
What does the UFCP power switch in the front cockpit control?
The power to the UFCP in BOTH cockpits and the HUD
How long does EGI alignment take on the ground after power is applied?
4 minutes
What does the TCAS switch on AAP control?
Turns on and off TCAS and the Transponder
How do you set the HDG marker?
MFD HDG rocker, Push SET on the UFCP to set the heading, Push H to snap to present heading
How do you cycle the increment decrement on the UFCP?
Push 5
What are the RAD ALT limits?
Surface to 5200’ +/-2 feet or 2% whichever is greater
Also limited to +/-45º pitch or bank
What does the MODE button do on the UHF backup control panel?
Changes between MAIN and BOTH (receives main only or main+guard)
Which button on the stick will change the display from HSI to HSD to SIT?
Default Display Switch (castle switch)
How do you determine an INTERNAL gage failure has occurred on the EED?
FAIL indication
What is the indication on the EED if an EXTERNAL or sensor problem occurs?
OFF
Except for EGT or RPM which will indicate zero
What happens to the HUD when the gear is lowered?
HDG changes to the top TD box (Target Designation) will disappear AOA staple will appear VVI will appear left of altimeter Additional 2.5º pitch down on the ladder
Where is the bearing arrow on the HUD?
Upper right hand corner
What is the number on the HUD between the reference wings and the BRG arrow?
The Radial from the waypoint
Located in the upper right corner of the HUD
What are the warnings (red)?
Boxed and blinking on the HUD
Red on the MFD
4 warnings (in priority order): FIRE STALL ALTITUDE GEAR
Which warnings or cautions do NOT have a tone or voice?
NO BREAK X
DESCEND
ALT HOLD
In what order do malfunctions appear on the MFD PFL page?
In the sequence of appearance
If FUEL PRESS light comes on in flight, what altitude should you descend to?
Below 25,000
Guaranteed to 6,000
Flameouts have occurred as low at 7,000
When should you NOT crossfeed?
Boost pump Fail Indicator Fail Leak Low Alt (≤5,000 feet) Low Fuel
When should you crossfeed?
Fuel imbalance of 200 lbs or greater
What part of the engine receives stage 8 air for anti-ice purposes?
Inlet Guide Vanes
Bullet Nose
What does a FIRE light indicate?
An Overheat or a FIRE
What does the variable geometry system do?
Adjusts the variable guide vanes and 3rd 4th and 5th stage bleed valves to help prevent compressor stalls
While climbing out to the area, you notice your right TACH goes to 0 and right OIL PRESS goes to 0. What is the malfunction?
OIL pump shaft has sheared
The oil pump shaft and Tach generator are on the same drive shaft. The T5 Alternator is also on this shaft which causes the nozzle to close to zero and EGT to rise.
What does the T5 system do?
Cuts in at 97% to reopen the nozzles to regulate temperature through afterburner
The T5 does NOT close the nozzles
If it needs to be reclosed, it is accomplished hydromechanically
What are the recommended engine restart parameters?
Below 25,000 ft
Minimum 12% RPM
The heart of the restart envelope is 18-20%
What is the effect on engine thrust with burner blowout?
Engine thrust is reduced when the afterburner is lost
MIL should still be available
What hydraulic system needs to be operational to have NWS?
Left Utility
Also on this system: Flight Controls Aug System (YSAS) NWS Gear Speed Brake
What are the indications of a Flap Slab failure with the flaps extended in flight?
An abrupt and uncommanded pitch up
What are the indications of a Flap Slab fail during takeoff?
Light than normal stick forces and less stick travel for rotation
What activates the gear warning system?
At or below 10,000
At or below 210 KCAS
Both throttles below 96%
What do you lose if you RAM DUMP?
Defog Canopy Seal G-Suit Air Conditioning Pressurization
(Do not lose Anti-Ice nor Hydraulic Reservoir pressurization)
What happens to the Environmental/Pressurization System if you lose right AC Bus?
Nothing is lost but the position of the RAM DUMP switch and Temperature Rheostat will have no effect if changed.
