Auto Throttles Provide What?
Both high and low speed protection. (Even if not engaged)
Adjust to track an airspeed automatically.
Adjust to track selected mode setting.
TO Armed
White TO annunciator displayed on Mode Controller showing auto throttles armed for takeoff.
TO
When throttles are moved beyond 31 degrees with TO armed previously selected.
Climb
FLC selected auto throttles will maintain commanded speed. Uses maximum climb thrust and uses pitch to maintain airspeed.
Hold
Entered when takeoff power is achieved. Power removed from servos until aircraft reaches 400 ft AGL and another mode is selected.
CRU
Limits maximum thrust in other modes.
Desc (Descend)
FLC mode selected aircraft will immediately begin a descent at commanded speed.
VNAV mode selected auto throttle will follow target Mach and transition to selected speed as appropriate.
VS mode aircraft will follow selected VS if alt selector is set appropriately.
RETARD
Below 40 ft AGL if auto throttle is not in takeoff or climb mode. Associated performance penalty of (Landing Distance x 1.13)
Spd M .XXX
Auto throttle will maintain commanded mach.
Spd XXXkt
Auto throttle will maintain commanded speed.
AT Engage
Located on back of throttle toggles between armed engaged and off.
AT Disc
Located on front of throttles disengages auto throttle or takes it out of armed mode. Manually moving throttle levers will also disconnect auto throttle system.
Spd Knob
Two Modes:
Manual: Use knob to set desired speed. Pressing knob toggles between speed and Mach while in manual speed mode.
FMS: Auto throttle follows FMS calculated speed.
Normal Auto Throttle Disconnect
Amber AT flashes for 6 seconds with single associated aural alert.
Abnormal Auto Throttle Disconnect
Aural Alert and Amber AT flashes until acknowledged by crew.
Auto throttle limit annunciators
Amber is cautionary (Preventing a limit violation)
White is advisory message.
Emergency Descent Default Speed
295 KIAS
Climb Default Speeds
250 KIAS/.64M
Holding Default Speed
180 KIAS set 3 minutes prior to holding fix.
Gear Down without Flaps Default Speed
190KIAS
Flaps 1 Default Speed
190KIAS Allows for selection of Flaps 2
Flaps 2 Default Speed
160KIAS Allows for selection of Flaps Full
Flaps Full Default Speed
120KIAS Slows for expected approach.
Potential 5G Interference
(AOB 22-04)
When a radio altimeter NOTAM is issued accomplish the following:
Below 100 ft AGL TCAS RAs are inhibited, and only TAs are triggered. If a TCAS RA “Descend” is triggered below 1000 ft AGL, disregard.
Monitor radio altitude for erroneous data or failure on takeoff and landing.
Monitor auto throttles in accordance with the automation section of AOM.
If windshear or TAWS warning is activated, accomplish missed approach. IF 5G interference is suspected, attempt approach again, confirming alerts with other instruments and available information.
Potential 5G Interference Post Flight Actions

Notify ATC of radio altimeter anomalies as soon as practical.
Encouraged to submit an ASAP report.
Automation Management
(AOM 2.8)
Do not leave automation unattended to control the aircraft. Inside the FAF, the PF must hold the flight controls and throttle, unless other required action is necessary in order to monitor automation actions through tactile feedback.
