Master Warning System

A

Includes a pair of MASTER WARNING and MASTER CAUTION lights, aural alerts, and Crew Alerting System (CAS) messages.

Lights, aural tones, and messages provide a visual/ aural indication to the pilots of certain faults, functions, and/or conditions of selected systems.

CAS Messages

A

CAS messages are displayed by the G5000 on the Primary Flight Displays (PFDs).

CAS message indicates an individual system situation, or simultaneous situations on both sides (left and right) of a dual system.

CAS messages appear on the lower right-hand corner of each PFD.

System Detection

A

Pressure and temperature sensors, switches, FADECs, and other devices detect conditions in the aircraft and its systems.

This information is provided as analog or digital signals to the G5000 system. These signals are received at the left and right GARMIN integrated avionics unit (GIAs), the left and right GARMIN engine/airframe interface units (GEAs) and Data Concentrators (GSDs).

A

Only Left GIA, left GEA and left GSD are powered. CAS messages from other sources will not be displayed.

CAS Message Types

A

CAS messages are in one of three colors: red, amber, or white.

Some messages are followed by the letters L, R or L-R, which respectively indicate left, right, or both systems affected.

A

Red indicates a warning (hazardous situation that requires immediate pilot corrective action).

Red CAS Message

A

It flashes in the CAS window

The MASTER WARNING light flashes

An audio alert will sound three times:

A double chime or,

A voice announcing the CAS message

Remain displayed until the situation is corrected and the first nine are non-scrollable.

All red CAS messages are displayed at the top of the CAS display window with the newest message at the top of the red CAS group.

MASTER WARNING Light

A

Pressing the light acknowledges the message and extinguishes the MASTER WARNING light.

CAS message changes to a steady state and will cancel the double chime alert.

If the message is accompanied by the voice announcement, it will continue to sound 3 times.

Caution Message

A

Amber indicates a caution (abnormal or special situation that includes a possible need for future pilot corrective action).

A

Pressing the MASTER CAUTION light acknowledges the message and extinguishes the MASTER CAUTION light.

Additionally, it changes the CAS message to a steady state.

A

It flashes in the CAS window.

The MASTER CAUTION light flashes.

A single audio chime will sound one time.

Amber CAS messages remain displayed until the situation is corrected and may be scrolled out of view.

All amber CAS messages are grouped together below any red CAS messages in the CAS display window with the newest message at the top of the amber CAS group.

Advisory Message

A

White indicates an advisory (items which are considered normal during operation of the aircraft or do not normally require any pilot action).

A

It flashes in the CAS window for five seconds then goes steady.

All white CAS messages may be scrolled out of view.

They are grouped together below any amber CAS messages in the CAS display window with the newest message at the top of the amber CAS group.

CAS Message Type Priority

A

Some CAS messages may appear in different colors at different times, indicating different conditions or levels of severity ( Warning , Caution , or Advisory).

If a message changes color (due to changing severity of the condition/indication), the appropriate master indicators will appear and the message moves to the top of the list of the appropriate color group.

Each CAS message appears in its highest-priority color appropriate at the time.

CAS Message Scrolling

A

The CAS message window can only display a maximum of 12 messages.

To ensure all valid CAS messages can be seen when appropriate, the CAS message window uses a “scrolling list” of all the current valid CAS messages.

When more than 7 warning messages accumulate, the Up and Down Scroll CAS Buttons become available on the PFD Home Screen.

A number at the bottom of the CAS window with an arrow pointer indicates the number of messages currently out of view.

In reversionary mode up to 11 messages can be displayed. When more than 6 messages accumulate, the Up and Down Scroll CAS Buttons become available on the PFD home screen.

CAS Message Inhibits

A

Many CAS messages are inhibited from displaying during certain phases of aircraft operation, regardless of whether the CAS message would otherwise be valid or not.

These inhibits reduce pilot workload or prevent invalid indications during certain phases of aircraft operation.

Bus Off Inhibit

A

During engine start, with a bus failure in flight, or during emergency bus operations, selected messages are inhibited when the respective bus voltage is below a defined limit.

In-Air/ On Ground Inhibit

A

Selected messages are inhibited when the aircraft is in the air or on the ground.

Auto Test Inhibit

A

Selected messages are inhibited when the aircraft is performing auto tests.

Takeoff Inhibit (TOPI)

A

Prevents messages from distracting the flight crew during takeoff.

Activates:
The aircraft transitions from on ground to in air. Either indicated airspeed transitions from less than 65 knots to greater than 65 knots.

Deactivates:
The aircraft has been in the air for more than 30 seconds.

Pressure altitude is more than 400 feet above the field elevation. Field elevation is determined from the pressure altitude attained while on the ground.

Either airspeed indication is less than 50 knots. Throttle Lever Angle (TLA) not above the NTO trip point (31° TLA).

Landing Inhibit (LOPI)

A

Prevents messages from distracting the flight crew during landing.

Activates:
The aircraft transitions from in air to on ground.

The Radio Altimeter transitions below 400 feet AGL.

Deactivates:
The aircraft has been on the ground for more than 30 seconds.

Either indicated airspeed is less than 50 knots.

The LOPI has been active for more than 90 seconds.

The Radio Altimeter is greater than 500 feet AGL.

Engine Shutdown Inhibit (ESDI)

A

Active when the ENGINE SHUTDOWN L and/ or R CAS message is present.

The ENGINE SHUTDOWN L and/or R CAS message is displayed when the FADEC shuts down an engine due to pilot command.

The message remains during a start until after the engine achieves the idle condition.

Engine Fail Inhibit (EFI)

A

Active when the ENGINE FAILED L or R CAS message is present.

The ENGINE FAILED L or R CAS message is displayed when the FADEC has decided to shut down an engine due to system failure.

The message is also displayed when an automatic relight takes more than 30 seconds to recover operation to idle or above.

Debounce

A

Debounce is used to prevent nuisance CAS messages for transient conditions that do not need to be immediately reported. It is the amount of time the condition must be true before the message is posted, or before an existing message is promoted from a less severe color to a more severe color.

Red MASTER WARNING Light Trigger

A

A new red message appears in the CAS window, both red MASTER WARNING lights illuminate flashing.

Illumination of either ENGINE FIRE light also triggers the MASTER WARNING lights.

If two or more red CAS messages are flashing at the same time, pressing the MASTER WARNING light once acknowledges them all at the same time.

If the condition that caused the CAS message is corrected or stops before resetting the MASTER WARNING lights, the CAS message and the red MASTER WARNING lights stop flashing and the message extinguishes.

Amber MASTER CAUTION Lights Trigger

A

A new amber message appears in the CAS window, both amber MASTER CAUTION lights illuminate steady.

If multiple amber CAS messages are flashing at the same time, pressing a MASTER CAUTION light once acknowledges them all. The messages will all stop flashing and illuminate steady.

If all amber CAS message problems are solved before the MASTER CAUTION lights are reset, the MASTER CAUTION lights automatically extinguish.

System Tests

A

Located on MFD GTC push the corresponding button to test the respective system.

TCAS System Tests

A

After initial power up, the TCAS system runs an internal check of circuitry which results in the Traffic button showing a green PASS.

This check is not sufficient and pushing the Traffic button during the system tests is required to check for all symbology and aural annunciation as required by the AFM.

System Test (Done)

A

Indicates that the test was successfully initiated and it is up to the pilot to validate that the test passed. No additional pilot action is required.

System Test (Pass)

A

Displays in green if positive feedback is received from the test. (Only available for HF test) ((The Traffic button will show it initially but requires additional checks).

System Test (Fail)

A

Displays in amber if negative feedback is received from the test.

Deactivating System Test

A

Once started the test can be deactivated by pressing the button again, initiating another test, or waiting for 15 seconds for most tests to complete. The overspeed test times out after 5 seconds.

Auto Test

A

Automatic self-tests run at power on or other appropriate times depending on the system. After the tests are run, the results are displayed on the MFD Synoptics Summary page.

While the system is being tested a white “Testing” will display, followed by a green “Pass” or amber “Fail” based on the test result.

No Takeoff

A

Provides a takeoff configuration warning. It is intended to prevent the pilots from inadvertently taking off when not in the safe takeoff configuration. This message appears in white until the engines are running and either throttle is at or above CRU. At that time the message turns red and an aural “No Takeoff” will sound three times. The pilots must correct the condition before taking off.

NO TAKEOFF Message Triggers

A

The CABIN DOOR OPEN CAS message is present.

The PARK BRAKE ON CAS message is present.

The PARK BRAKE LOW PRESS CAS message is present.

The PITCH/ROLL DISC CAS message is present. Either aileron trim, stab trim or rudder trim is not in the takeoff band.

The flaps or speed brakes are not in takeoff configuration.

The CONTROL LOCK ON CAS message is present. The rudder bias actuator is not in the T/O band.

The aileron ratio changer is not in the safe takeoff position.

Either T/R is in emergency stow.
