Synovial Joints and Muscle Action Flashcards
What is a Muscle?
Muscles are organs comprised of muscle tissues, enabling contraction and relaxation to affect movement or locomotion.
What is the Synovial fluid and its function?
The Synovial fluid is a viscous fluid found in the cavities of synovial joints.
Function - reduces friction between the cartilage of synovial joints during movement and when absorbing shocks.
What is the Synovial membrane and its function?
The synovial membrane is a specialised connective tissue that lines the inner surface of capsules of synovial joints.
Function - makes direct contact with the Synovial fluid lubricant, which it is responsible for making.
What is the Tendon and its function?
The Tendon is a flexible but elastic cord of strong fibrous collagen tissue.
Function - it attaches muscle to bone.
What is the Ligament and its function?
The Ligament is a short band of tough flexible fibrous connective tissue.
Function - connects two bones or cartilage or holds together a joint.
What is the Cartiliage and its function?
The Cartiliage is a connective tissue located in may areas of the body.
Function - acts a cushion between the bones of joints.
What are pther functions of the Bone?
Provides protection for vital organs and provides support for the body.
